Destination Video: Barrancoso River Argentina By Todd Moen For Catch Magazine
Check out sight fishing for these amazing 10+ pound rainbows, fought and landed under extremely harsh conditions in the beautiful Andes mountains region of Argentina.
The series of videos produced for Catch Magazine by Todd Moen are not only beyond impressive, they’re among the best destination fly fishing videos available. As a durable film, it’s worth going back a few years to check out this hard-to-reach river and other Catch Mag videos.
Barrancoso River Argentina
This video seems to pack it all in. Beautiful scenery in a rugged landscape, challenging fishing, huge lunker rainbow trout. It’s worth watching the entire video (including some great drone footage) to see Todd’s great capture of the history and geography of the area.
But if you’re hankering to get right in on the fishing action, go straight to the middle – start just after minute 5:00 in this Argentina fly fishing extravaganza.
Want to know how to catch large rainbow trout? Then take note of the many skills needed to hook and land these massive fish. From casting “bomber” streamer patterns in high winds, to skittering mouse fly patterns across the pools, to how to play and land fish (all the while scrambling across rocks to land them – as much rocking climber as fly fisherman).
Add some great music and narration, a little information about the host fishing guides and fly fishing lodge, and you’ve got a great fly fishing escape destination to day dream about.
In his commentary section, Todd describes it as “the most fun and the most challenging video I’ve ever shot for Catch Magazine.” Even if he felt challenged in “every aspect of my ability as a camera operator and aerial photographer,” well, let’s say we’re pretty impressed.
While not explicitly discussed, you can watch what fly fishing gear, flies to have in your fly box, fly fishing rod and reel, etc. to use. Not to mention high quality cool weather and really cold water gear to be well outfitted for a challenging international fly fishing trip.
If you weren’t already thinking about forming a bucket list for the best places to fly fish in the world, we bet you are now!
